DIY Day

Tempted
to slip into
the back room
no one sees

the one behind
the front room
others can view
that I don’t
want them to
sometimes

Tempted
into safety
where the only
harm done
is to me
through lethargy

Tempted
to draw curtains
and sit
in shadows

until whatever day
you shine
your breeze
through the front door
so it inches
its way back to me
like the smell
of warm food

Tempted
like everyone
in odd times
only there is no room
for oddity today

I’m taking
the doors clean off
and knocking all
unsupporting walls
that lie between
this great openness
and affinity

about the poet: ciaran boyce

Ciaran writes to reflect the simple things in his world that for years he took for granted. He writes as a way of learning to appreciate the beautiful simplicity of life that mostly goes unnoticed. He draws great inspiration from where he lives in the northwest of Ireland, and loves to help people find deeper meaning in their life and work when they get stuck.
