Never Reread Old Writing

When I picked up an old journal, I was transported back to

Then when I thought I had forgotten all the details but

Again I was reminded of the hardest times I’ve ever

Been through, and, beyond that,

Embarrassment at what you took for

Contentment when there should have been some more

Resentment from a man who didn’t know what

Amend meant

Flowers I never received and

Powers you tried to strip from me

Showers I spent crying and the times that I

Cowered until it’s remembered that it’s in the

Past and finally feels as though I’ve

Crashed back to Earth and five years went by so

Fast and I can remember to breathe at

Last.
