Eastern Meadowlark Protects his Family
Photos are of a male Eastern Meadowlark (you can see the trademark black V-shape on his chest). It’s now nesting season and birds are fiercely defending their nests, as you can tell from his poses. The female was around as well, yet she isn’t nearly as colorful and showy. These photos were taken on the way to Joe Overstreet Landing, in Kenansville, Florida.

Wendy is a copywriter and wildlife photographer, with a background in acupuncture and teaching. She arrived back in the USA after 8 years abroad, and she credits birds for getting her out of the house and meeting new people, during the pandemic. She can be found pursuing eagles, osprey and owls (and sometimes gators, deer, and cows…and the occasional snake) along the Great Florida Birding Trail. Check out the array of living creatures she’s already encountered . . . https://www.instagram.com/wendywhowends/
